Body found in search for missing boater

This comes after a public appeal to find 62-year-old Peter, who was last seen near Pigeon Lock in Kirtlington, was made earlier today (May 2) by Thames Valley Police.
After a search by Oxfordshire Lowland Search and Rescue, a body was discovered near the lock.

Although the body is yet to be formally identified, police believe it to be that of Peter, whose surname has not been disclosed.
His next of kin have been informed.
During the search the Oxford Canal was closed to all boats between bridges 213 and 217, Pigeon Lock, Tackley, and Baker’s Lock, Enslow.
The towpath was also closed between these areas while the search was ongoing.
It was the second high-profile death announced by police in a day after a woman in her 70s died in non-suspicious circumstances in Banbury Road in Kidlington after officers were called at 3.30pm.
