Many people are self-conscious about having a ‘double chin’ and try to eliminate it. It might seem challenging to exercise your chin, but a doctor has shared how it can be done to tighten your muscles.

The term ‘double chin’ refers to an accumulation of fat and tissue beneath the chin, which creates a fold or produces the look of a ‘second chin’. It’s not uncommon for people to have extra weight on their chins and necks, altering the appearance of their faces and jaws.

While weight gain is one contributing factor to a double chin, it is not the sole reason. Some may be naturally inclined to develop a double chin due to their body type and genetics. Another factor could be the natural ageing process. As we grow older, our bodies generate less collagen, leading to diminished elasticity. This allows fat to gather, adding to the appearance of a double chin.

Chiropractor Dr Michael Rowe has revealed a simple method for eliminating a double chin.

This technique, showcased by Dr Rowe on TikTok, is uncomplicated and doesn’t require signing up for a gym or investing in pricey cosmetic procedures.

Instead, it’s a “very easy” exercise that claims to firm up the muscles around the jawline and neck, reports Surrey Live. According to the doctor, the practice helps contour and reduce the ‘double chin,’ and all you need is a tennis ball.

Dr Rowe explained the method, and said: “A tennis ball works perfectly – take a tennis ball and place it right underneath your chin and then press your chin into your chest.

As you do this, you’re going to feel a tonne of muscles in the neck start to fire, hold this [position] comfortably for five seconds, relax, and then repeat.”

The chiropractor suggested that this exercise should be repeated 10 to 15 times. He believes it’s sufficient to make a difference, but not enough to cause perspiration.

“With each repetition, try to press down into it slightly more,” he further advised. “You want to do this about two to three times a day.”

If any discomfort is experienced, Dr Rowe recommends incorporating some recovery time.

While this specific exercise may target the problem area, it should be complemented with an appropriate diet and exercise regimen for enhanced and faster results.

Lifestyle and dietary modifications can help diminish a double chin by concentrating on overall weight reduction.

This can be achieved by consuming a balanced diet comprising lean proteins, healthy fats, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

Processed foods, sugary beverages, and excessive alcohol should be minimised. If you have any concerns, it’s advisable to consult your doctor.

Tennis balls can be purchased from various shops that sell sports goods, such as Sports Direct or Argos. You can also order them via Amazon, and they will be delivered to your door.
